These are the basic questions we intend to answer over the course of 2007, and beyond.  The Upper Room is very firm in the belief that we need to be educated in responsible sponsorship practices to maintain a strong, thriving Emmaus community.  Therefore, a team of community members has comprehensively worked on a Sponsorship Training Program over the past several years. 

Good sponsorship is vital to the health and growth of an Emmaus community.  Sometimes we are not aware of the huge responsibility in being a Sponsor, and our hope is to get back to basics, to educate and inform, and answer any questions anyone may have with regards to Sponsorship.  Many communities have made attending and completing a Sponsorship Training Program a mandatory pre-requisite to actually sponsoring another pilgrim. 

In light of the fact that our community has grown to its present size, it is even more important that our community members are aware of how vitally important Good Sponsorship is. 

We are offering our Sponsorship Training Program in two different settings.  We are  presenting Sponsorship Training before a gathering, after each “set” of womens’ and mens’ walks.  For instance, we had a Women’s Walk in February, and a Men’s Walk in March. Our first Sponsorship Training session was Tuesday, April 10, 2007. We begin at 6:00pm before Gathering.  The Class is at Sidney First United Methodist Church, in “The Well”. We will continue to offer this Training Class after each set of women’s/men’s walks throughout 2007, as well as every year thereafter.

We will continue to announce this Training at gatherings, as well as post it on the Emmaus website.  The Training involves a powerpoint presentation on Sponsorship, followed by a question and answer session.  Our hope is that the training will last 40-45 minutes, so you’re upstairs in time for the Gathering!  Sponsorship training is strongly recommended before you actually sponsor a pilgrim.  There is so much more to it than gathering agape for their Sunday envelope.

 The Greater Sidney Area Emmaus Board of Directors needs to be assured that everyone is doing their absolute best to cooperate in making our Community strong in leadership, fellowship, and servanthood through responsible Sponsorship, as set forth by the Upper Room.
