Greater Sidney Area Emmaus Newsletter June 1999WHO IS YOUR HERO AND ROLE MODEL?
When I think back on my childhood I can remember having a couple of heroes; Dale Evans was my favorite - wow, a woman who was a cowboy (sorry, cowgirl!) and Ameila Earhart, the famous aviatrix, and Sky King. I loved to "dress up" in my western jeans and pretend to ride a horse (yep, the broom!) and pretend to follow Roy Rogers throughout the wild west. Then, whenever I felt like soaring the open skies I would sit out on the back step with an old steering wheel and pretend I was flying over oceans and mountains. What a wonderful and carefree life. Isnt it fun to have heroes to mimic?
I know all of us have been touched in many ways these past weeks by the needless shootings/killings in high schools. We ask all sorts of questions: "Why didnt the parents know what was going on?" "What could have possessed these boys to do such a thing?" "What is this world coming to?" We ask the questions and we search for the answers.
I think some of the answers are found in who these young men had as heroes and role models; the people they mimicked.
On our Emmaus walks we hear many wonderful talks, one of which is, "Changing Our World." You and I, as followers of Jesus Christ, are to go out into our world and make a difference - teach others about Christ and His love for them and help them to walk in His path. Would it have made a difference in the lives of Eric and Dylan if they would have known and believed they were loved and werent outcasts or a nobody? Would it make a difference in the life of a child, a young person or any adult that you know who feels unloved and uncared for? Who is going to tell these people that Jesus loves them - loves them so much that he gave his life for them and for us? I know of no better hero for us to have than Jesus Christ - I want to be like Him! How about you?
In Christs eternal love,
Kathy Reiff

4th Day Speakers Needed for Sidney Gathering
Dont bey shy! Be a witness for Christ. What has He done for you?? What did your Emmaus Walk mean to you??? How has He changed your life? By answering these questions, you will have your 4th day talk written! Of, course, for those of you who prefer to wing it without notes, go for it! Thats great, too!
A 4th Day talk doesnt need to be lengthy...10 minutes tops!! We like to hear from men and women alike...as well as those who have taken a Chrysalis flight. The Emmaus Community will enjoy and appreciate your sharing. If you are interested in giving a future 4th Day talk, please contact your Worship Chairman, at (937) 596-6077. Or, you can e-mail Deb Hereld at daisy1@bright.net.
"A Change in the Gathering Format"

We will then adjourn to the Sanctuary for a time of singing, worship, prayer, the Fourth Day talk and close with Communion.
We are asking for your comments/suggestions/input on this, so please share with any Board Member your feelings regarding this change in format.

Mary had a little Lamb,
His fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went,
The Lamb was sure to go.
He followed her to school each day
when it wasn't against the rules.
He made the children laugh and play,
to have the Lamb at school.
Then the rules changed one day,
against the law it became
To bring the Lamb of God to school,
or even speak His Name.
Every day got worse and worse
and days turned into years.
Instead of hearing children laugh and play,
you heard them crying tears.
What must we do to stop the crime
that's in our schools today?
Let the Lamb come back to school
and teach our kids to pray.
