LEADERSHIP GREETING!

I’m not sure exactly what that means, but I couldn’t come up with anything clever.  It’s been kind of crazy here in the old classroom the past week or so.  Tomorrow is “WACKY DAY” (?)  I don’t understand why you would want to promote behavior that you fight all year to prevent.  Lord, I apologize for not having more of an open spirit to the to the time of year, but………...2 more days, 2 more days, 2 more days………  I need a vacation! Sorry, to all of you who work all year round.

Speaking of vacations.  I would like to encourage the community during the vacation season to not take a vacation from God. We all can be guilty of it when we’re “on the road”.  It’s easy to stay away from church.  The thing is, I’ll bet there’s a church sopen every Sunday morning within 5 miles of anywhere you may be.  Get up and go fellowship with a new group of Christian friends.  Who knows, you may even find it refreshing to worship without having to take an active role in the leadership of a service, as most of you probably do in your home church every Sunday.

Now, to the business end of this note.  During vacation times attendance is usually down in our local churches.  Less people make less cash flow and sometimes hardship for some of the smaller congregations we are part of.  This makes it difficult to pay the bills at times.  Here is the Sidney Community, we’re not exempt from this problem.  Over the past couple of years, the treasury has taken a drop.  The question is not why, but how can we replenish this deficit.  The board has already implemented some methods to help.  What we need from the Community is just continued support of the Board.  Your support will come in the form of trust that we’ll do all the right things to make a recovery.  The bottom line is, we don’t want to do anything premature, or harmful to the Community.  Your suggestions are always welcome.

Thanks,

Jerry Noble

Candlelight Offering

WHY AN OFFERING DURING CANDLELIGHT??

We all are aware of the ever-increasing pressure on our own budgets.  It seems as thought it is a weekly event to discover another item in our budget that has increased our expenses.

The Emmaus budget is no different.  Costs for suppliers and food have continued to steadily increase over  the past couple of years.  In addition,

the Upper Room has increased the

fee we pay for each pilgrim 25%, from $7.50 to $10.00 per pilgrim.

Other communities have addressed this problem with registration fees above the $65.00 required by the Greater Sidney Area Community.

The Board continues to make every effort not to raise our registration fees. One step has been to start collecting an offering during the

candlelight..  The hope is that we will not need to raise the registration fee, however we will need to continue to monitor our costs to assure that we maintain a positive financial position.  Thank you for your understanding.

BOARD RESIGNATION

As of the April Board Meeting, the members of the Emmaus Board has accepted the resignation of Marilain Fry, as Women’s Good Shepherd, due to health reasons.  We wish to thank Marilain for her dedication, and ask you to please keep her in your prayers as she goes through this difficult period.

Rick Poppe, will assume both the Men’s and Women’s Good Shepherd position through the year 2005.  We want to thank Rick, and Marilain for their service to the community.
